Experiment!
Aim
To test the acidity of popular soft drinks such as coke, fanta, sprite, solo and compare them to other drinks such as fruit drinks and also see the if the high acidity drinks will break down solids.
Equipment : pH paper, pH reference chart, different drinks (ranging from soft drinks to fruit drinks), container, metal, plastic.
Method
1.Pour your drinks all marked in a separate beaker.
2.Remove one strip of the pH test paper.
3.Hold one end of the test strip between the index finger and thumb.
4.Dip the test strip into the solution to be tested for about 1-2 seconds.
5.Shake off excess liquid.
3.Compare the color of the results to a reference chart.
4.Record the results
5.Repeat the experiment for all the drinks.
Experiment 2
Method
1.Pour your drinks all marked in a separate beaker.
2.Place a piece of the thin metal into the solution.
3.Wait for eight hours.
4.Retrieve the metal from the drink.
5.Observe the effects and record these in a table from no effect, minimum effect, major effect, or completely gone.
6. Repeat the experiment for all the drinks.
Hypothesis
Soft drinks will be the most acidic.
